Tips on How To Stay Healthy When Travelling
From the moment you step on the plane, most of the time, your healthy eating habits are left at the airport (or before). But there are ways in which you can stay healthy during your short or long trips and still have the best holiday of your life! Here are our top tips for keeping on track during your getaway from the 5-star restaurants in Dubai to the sunny shores of Australia.
Fit some Active Time into your Days
They say that a new city is always better when explored by foot, and we agree! Rather opt for walking from your beach resort or hotel to the various tourists destinations as it will save you time if the area is very popular, plus you never know what hidden gems you may find along the way! Also make use of the gyms and fitness tracks at the places you are staying during your down time as this will help with energy levels and not make you feel too guilty when indulging in all the glorious food options!
Always Keep Healthy Snacks Nearby
Rather than giving in and snacking on the crisps and chocolate on offer in many of the hotel rooms mini fridges, rather opt to fill it with healthier snacks like fruit, nuts and yoghurt, to name a few. Another great option if you are in a self-catering unit, is to try head to the local supermarket and enjoy some of their local produce in a meal that you make at your accommodation. If you are not in a self-catering unit, there is still the opportunity to buy some health bread, light cheese and a meat and make yourself a sandwich, which could be much healthier than some of the other options on offer!
If you drink a lot of water when you are at home, increase that intake when you are on holiday. If you are not much of a water drinker, then now is the time to start! Keeping hydrated, especially in hotter areas, will help you feel more alert and result in a longer day of activities and exploring! It will also help keep you full between meals when you are on the run and do not have time to sit down at a restaurant If you are not a fan of water, we would suggest adding a few slices of some fruit like a lemon or orange to give the water a bit of taste, without becoming unhealthy.
